Caretaker’s House, Occupied (2)

Just been sent a series of images of the Caretaker’s House shot for Elle Decoration by Danish interior photographer, Birgitta Drejer (Sisters Agency). Always great to have shots of our work being used and occupied…

Nice to see picture of a project inhabited. My pet hate is architect’s websites where you have them same “Profile, Projects, News, Careers” formula and the seemingly ubiquitous Projects section of empty unoccupied buildings. Are we supposed to be admiring the beautiful, purity of an unadorned poetic space designed by a genius that’ll be sullied by people and furniture. I have to say a didn’t recognise the Caretakers Cottage when thumbing through Elle Decoration Country (are architects supposed to read such superficial low-brow tat? The building looked so much better for being occupied and lived in (alive!). I wish more architects would show their buildings in use, otherwise we’re just designing for architectural magazine / competition money-shots, the architectural equivalent of pneumatic breasted porn stars; ultimately unrealistic and not in the slightest bit satisfying compared to the real thing!
