Job (Now Filled)

I’ve always worried that giving someone a ‘job’ structured an unsatisfactory relationship between people but I’ve decided that I need someone who can act a little more as a consistent anchor, and thus if you want a job because collaboration isn’t your thing, then that’s great.

Sometimes I’m in the studio a good deal, and wish I was much more so. I crave more time to do drawings, but I’m out so much, as my work is all over the country, and I’m really, really busy. I’ve also committed to a huge number of days filming again this year, which means I need someone who can take the burden off me to make things happen.

I need someone who is likely to be an architect, or at least an architecture graduate. Someone who is brilliant with all types of clients. Someone who is incredibly organized, and who can (up to a point, as I cherish my independence) organize me. Someone who is insanely self motivated and won’t wait to be micromanaged as I can’t micromanage people. Someone who can take responsibility, fundamentally, for the delivery and organization of projects in the office, and make us uber, uber efficient.

It may be that you want to work four hours a day, or fourteen. I know I’m being specifc about what I need, but how you do it is up to you. I’m more excited about you having your own life and needs outside and away from this that I am about thinking that you’d subjugate your needs for the sake of this job.

But, I don’t want to hear from you if, again, you want to jack in what you’ve got working elsewhere and think this job (if that is what it is) that will change your life. I need you to accept that there’s a good deal of risk and jeopardy in what we do, and, to a certain extent, in your role as the job progresses, and you develop it. So, I don’t want you to have too much at stake, as really I want it both ways. To a certain extent, I want you to tell me what you think I need. I want someone to seize this and define their own role and make it amazing.

Most of all, I don’t want you to be too needy. I want you to see what needs doing before I do, and to act on it without waiting for instruction.

You’ll also, of course, need to be exquisitely visually literate and capable of your own extraordinary drawings. With this – perhaps, the most difficult bit for most people (I have almost never found this in anyone) you’ll need to excel at working by yourself when none of us re in – remember, you’re to be the consistent and organised anchor, in the middle of what most people call ‘nowhere’ but I call ‘somewhere’ – near Bath. Please don’t apply if you need to relocate – that would be too much pressure on me to make it work for you. Sorry.

I expect that I’ve put most people off, but If there is the slightest chance that this hasn’t, and you might be able to do some of these things – even if not all – then please email info@invisiblestudio.org
